My previous job doesn’t require me to meet up with clients and this matches my introvert and shy personality perfectly. In contrary, my current job mainly requires me to communicate and at time meet up with people from all walks of life – clients, brokers, shipyards, engineers, suppliers etc. The greatest challenge is my personality and the different accent since I’m dealing with people from all over the world. Nevertheless, daily practice helps to boost my confidence and allows me to improve my communications skill greatly. My current job also enables me to acquire knowledge ranging from technical, administrative to negotiation etc. A total different spectrum from what I’ve learnt from my previous job.
I would say hard work, patience and perseverance paid off. One will just have to keep trying and don’t give up easily, you will never know when the opportunity come knocking on your door. You would have missed it if you are not ready. At time the outcome might not be what we expected but at least we have gained some experience or knowledge along the way or through the process.
