LANDING CRAFT are boats and seagoing vehicles specially designed to be flat-bottomed, often fitted with a lowerable ramp, with the need to run up onto shore or beach from ships and coasters and back for transportation, supply (food, water and oil), repair (fitted with workshops) and defence. In fact, they are used to convey landing forces (infantry and vehicles) from the sea to the shore during an amphibious assault. |
